We have several worship teams in various ministries here at Cornerstone Fellowship, and it is our desire to continually develop new teams as opportunities arise and as the right leaders and musicians become available.
What are some of the pre-requisites for becoming a worship community member?
- A heart of worship that is expressed in all areas of your life. (John 4:23-24)
- Musical ability. There is a certain level of musical accomplishment that is needed in order to play in a worship band situation. Not all of us are at that point yet. However, this is something that can be developed and strengthened over time. (Psalm 33:3)
- Being committed to the core values of Cornerstone Fellowship. We are here to point people towards Christ, not ourselves. (Psalm 115:1)
- A calling and anointing from God to minister through music. This is something that the various lead worshippers will help to discern. Many people are gifted musically, but not everyone is called to minister musically. (I Corinthians 12:4-6, 11)
- The personal preference of each team leader in choosing team members.
- Whether or not there are currently openings for musicians or vocalists.
How do worship leaders become aware of potential musicians and vocalists?
- Expressing your interest to Pastor Scott, our lead worshipper. He can be reached at (925) 447-3465, ext. 233.
- Social contact within the church. For example, a team leader may feel an interest or God's leading in inviting someone to try out for a particular team.
- The recommendation of others.
- Auditions, which are held periodically. This gives the chance to anyone who is a committed attendee of Cornerstone Fellowship to demonstrate their ability and level of proficiency on an instrument or with their voice. The auditions are not for any particular worship team, but rather to form a pool of musicians for any of the teams that currently exist or that may be developed in the future. A list of musicians gained from the auditions is made available to all of the team leaders.
How aggressive should a person be in pursuing the possibility of being on a worship team?
Being free of selfish ambition and self-promotion is one of the qualifying requirements for worship team involvement. If you have a desire to be involved and if God wants you to be involved, then the right opportunity will be there for you at the right time. You won't have to sell anyone on the idea that you should be on a team.
On the other hand, if you never take any steps forward to pursue music ministry, you'll never find out if it's the right thing for you.
