The Adopt-a-Grunt program was created in an effort to support our frontline infantrymen in Iraq. Commonly known as "Grunts" in the military, they are the men who go "outside the wire" on a constant basis to conduct presence patrols, raids on insurgent strongholds and man traffic control points. The group of grunts that we have adopted is Spc. Damon Cole's squad, which is a part of the 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. We chose this squad because Damon had gone to Cornerstone for quite some time before joining the Army, and still have a number of friends here. This group of American soldiers is often out for days and weeks at a time before they have a chance to sleep on a cot, use a porta-potty or have any kind of time off. They live in some of the worst possible conditions, in one of the highest casualty producing areas in all or Iraq. This is our opportunity to help them. We need to support them and comfort them all we can, because it is a statistical certainty that some of the members of this squad will be either killed or wounded before they are supposed to re-deploy back to the States in about 8 or 9 months.
You can help by donating any of the items on the list. You can drop off your donations to Chuck Fleming's office, or bring it to Cliff McCurley or Ray Bunch at Sanctuary. Please buy only items on the list, as they are things that have been specifically requested by Damon and his squad members. If you have any questions please call Cliff McCurley at (925)759-3565 or email grunt@sanctuaryweb.us. Thank you.
